ATM/Check Card Safety Tips

  • Do Not Disclose Information About Your Check Card Over the Telephone

    No individual or company needs to know your PIN number. If you conduct a transaction over the telephone using your Check Card, never disclose your PIN number.

  • Keep Your PIN a Secret

    PIN Debit purchases and ATM transactions require your PIN number. When you receive your PIN number, memorize the PIN, but never write it on your Check Card or store it with your Check Card. Never tell anyone your PIN number.

  • Review Your Account Statements for Unauthorized Transactions

    Review your monthly or quarterly account statements and report any errors, including transactions that you believe may be unauthorized, as soon as possible. Please notify NPM Credit Union promptly to limit your potential liability for unauthorized transactions. Contact us at 920-432-9044.

Report a Lost or Stolen Check Card

If you think your Check Card has been lost or stolen, please contact us immediately. During business hours, please call NPM Credit Union at 920-432-9044, Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm. If it is after business hours, please contact FraudWatch®PLUS at 1-800-264-5578.

Phishing & Internet Fraud

Phishing is where e-mail messages are sent from a scam artist to try and steal another person’s identity. The scam artist will ask for your personal information, or direct you to a website or telephone numbers to call where they will ask you to provide them with your personal information. Report suspicious activity to the FTC. If you get spam that is phishing for information, forward it to spam@uce.gov. if you believe you’ve been scammed, file your complaint at www.ftc.gov and then visit the FTC’s identity Theft website at www.consumer.gov/idtheft to learn how to minimize your risk of damage from ID theft. Visit www.ftc.gov to learn other ways to avoid email scams and deal with deceptive spam.

Online Banking Safe Practices

  • Password warning: This warning should remind members of the importance in using strong passwords. Strong online banking passwords are at least seven to nine characters in length, alphanumeric, case sensitive, and require the use of at least one special character (e.g., !, @, #, $, %, etc.)

  • Security software warning: This warning should alert members of the importance of protecting their home computers with an antivirus program and firewall. The warning should also address the importance of keeping the signature files up-to-date by downloading and installing the updates on a weekly basis.

  • Time and date of last access: Members should check the date and time their account was last accessed after logging into their account. This will help them detect unauthorized access to their accounts.

  • Public access computers: This warning should alert members of the risks in using computers that are accessible to the public to access their credit union accounts. Computers accessible to the public may be infected with viruses and/or malicious software, such as keyloggers.

  • Logout procedure: Members should always logout of online banking sessions by clicking the logout button rather than simply closing the browser window or using the “back” key.
